Tragedy Strikes at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill: Faculty Member Killed in Campus Shooting
In a shocking turn of events, a faculty member at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill was tragically killed on Monday in a shooting incident that led to a campus-wide lockdown. Campus authorities promptly apprehended a suspect approximately an hour and a half after the initial shooting, finally granting an “all-clear” for the campus roughly two hours later. Fortunately, no additional injuries were reported.

The campus community was alerted to the presence of an armed and dangerous individual on or near campus shortly after 1 p.m. At 2:24 p.m., the university issued a shelter-in-place order due to the suspect still being at large. When campus police released a photo of an unnamed person of interest at 2:35 p.m., they advised people to keep their distance, prioritize their safety, and call 911 if they spotted the individual.
North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper expressed his condolences, stating that measures are being taken to ensure campus safety and pledging support for the UNC community during this tragic incident.
