Rep. Steve Scalise Reveals ‘Very Treatable’ Multiple Myeloma Blood Cancer Diagnosis
In a recent announcement that has reverberated across the political landscape, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, a prominent figure in Louisiana politics, revealed that He has “very treatable blood cancer.” Scalise, a renowned Republican representative from Louisiana’s 1st Congressional District, informed the people that he had already begun treatment and would continue to serve his constituents while undergoing medical treatment.

The 51-year-old politician shared that his journey toward this diagnosis began when he sensed something was amiss with his health after a few days of not feeling like his usual self. A series of blood tests raised concerns, leading to additional examinations that ultimately identified the ailment as Multiple Myeloma, a blood cancer known for its treatability.
Speaking with candor and optimism, Scalise acknowledged his newfound health challenge and conveyed his intention to persevere .He said, “I’ve started treatment, and it will go on for the next few months .He went on to say, “I fully plan on working through this time and have every intention of coming back to Washington to carry on my role as Majority Leader and continue serving the wonderful people of Louisiana’s First Congressional District.”
Scalise’s rise in the political arena is marked by dedication and resilience. Beginning his political career during his time at Louisiana State University, where he was twice elected speaker of LSU’s Student Government Association, he later served as a member of Louisiana’s state Legislature for an impressive 12 years before winning a special election in 2008 to represent Louisiana’s 1st Congressional District.
A pivotal moment in his career came in 2012 when he became the chairman of the influential Republican Study Group, a significant achievement that showcased his unwavering commitment to conservative principles. This win was particularly notable as he bested Rep. Tom Graves, R-Ga., who had received unanimous recommendations from the group’s founders.
Scalise has faced adversity before, notably in June 2017 when he survived a harrowing shooting incident in Alexandria, Virginia. During a practice session for the annual Congressional baseball game, he was shot by a gunman. Remarkably, Scalise’s dedication to public service remained unbroken even in the face of this near tragedy. The recovery journey included multiple surgeries and blood transfusions as a result of the gunshot wound to his left hip, which also caused fractures and injuries to internal organs.
