Stunning Views: Chandrayaan-3 Reveals Spectacular Earth and Moon Images Captured by Spacecraft
In an exciting update, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) took to Twitter on [10-August-2023], to share remarkable images captured by Chandrayaan-3, India’s eagerly anticipated third lunar mission. These visuals provide a fascinating glimpse into the journey and preparations leading up to what could become a historic soft landing on the lunar surface.
The first image released showcases Earth, as seen through the lens of the Lander Imager (LI) camera, taken on the day of Chandrayaan-3’s momentous launch. On July 14, at approximately 2:35 pm, this lunar spacecraft embarked on its mission from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
The second image, equally captivating, is a shot of the Moon, as imaged by the Lander Horizontal Velocity Camera (LHVC) aboard Chandrayaan-3. This particular camera, along with the Lander Imager (LI), was skillfully crafted by the Space Applications Centre in Ahmedabad and the Laboratory for Electro-Optics Systems in Bengaluru.
Recent developments indicate that Chandrayaan-3 is now even closer to its lunar destination, thanks to a successful orbit reduction manoeuvre performed by the spacecraft. As shared by ISRO in a tweet, “Even closer to the moon’s surface. Following today’s maneuver, Chandrayaan-3’s orbit has been decreased to 174 km x 1437 km.” The next critical operation is scheduled on August 14, 2023, between 11:30 and 12:30 p.m.
The Chandrayaan-3 mission, initiated by ISRO, carries the ambitious goal of showcasing a full spectrum of capabilities, from safe lunar landing to surface roving. Its primary objective remains to secure a safe landing on the Moon and conduct a series of vital scientific experiments aimed at unravelling the lunar surface’s mysteries.
ISRO had previously announced its intention to attempt a soft landing on the lunar surface on August 23. If successful, India will join an elite group comprising the United States, Russia, and China as the fourth country to achieve this remarkable feat.
The release of Chandrayaan-3’s first Moon image marks a significant milestone in ISRO’s lunar exploration journey, following the Chandrayaan-2 mission, which experienced an unfortunate last-minute glitch that resulted in the lander’s crash after entering lunar orbit.
Potential Olympic Boycott: Impact and Countries Involved If Russians Participate
As the world watches with bated breath, Chandrayaan-3’s progress unfolds, bringing India closer to potentially making history with a successful lunar landing. Stay tuned for further updates on this exciting mission that holds the promise of expanding our understanding of our celestial neighbor, the Moon.
